What was left of Chrono's scalp soon ducked under the covers, leaving nothing but the long purple tresses sticking out of the top, and making the mass of blankets look unaccountably like a Chia Pet.
"Not yet," he insisted groggily upon being poked. "This train's a bit bumpy..."

Reg giggled evilly. "Wow, he's really out. We'll have to fix that."
"Reg, don't--!" Ran attempted to stop her from getting to the bathroom- and, therefore, access to cold water. However, due to an evil little trip-up and the fact his cold-blooded-esque systems were still half-out of it, he failed miserably, face meeting carpet.
Reg made no attempt to hide her nasty grin as she came back with a handful of ice-cold water, pulled back the covers slightly, and splashed the water on poor Chrono's face.

"Buh." Chrono blinked blearily, his one crimson eye attempting to swim into focus. He caught a glimpse of a teenage girl smiling evilly, felt something cold on his face, and registered no more than that.
"Grrrrmph," he articulated as he rolled back over, buried his face into the pillow, and sighed his way back to sleep.

Reg started at her inability to wake him up, the glared fumingly at the unconscious demon. "Oooooh--!" She paused. Remembered that she was dealing with a demon. Looked at the window. And GRINNED.
Roll, Toss. Grinning happily, Reg giggled as the last traced of purple fell out of the window. "Let's see him sleep through THAT." Besides, it was only a second-story window. What harm could it do?
Aside from the inevitable yank on her braid from the recovered and incredibly unhappy Ran. "Have you no shame, Reggae Alastor?!"
"No, it's morning."

Thunk. Chrono hit the ground, rolled over once, and fell still.
Miraculously, he had managed to hang on to his blanket. Now that he was all nice and rolled up in it, it formed a comfortable little coccoon into which he could once again burrow. This time, not even the feet showed at the bottom of the roll, only the fuzzed-up mass of purple Chia Pet at the top.
"Nrrrrgh," he sleep-growled. "Ten more hours, Rosette."
The snoring started again.

Reg peered out of the window to look at her handiwork. Froze. And immediately scowled. "Son of a--!!" Ran looked out too and sighed.
"Oh, thank goodness."
"HOW THE HELL DID HE STAY ASLEEP?!" Whirling and storming out, Reg growled, "That does it, I'm setting his hair on fire."
"Reggae, don't you dare!!"
One subduing morning-evil later...
Having managed to more-or-less force Reg to just go to breakfast and leave Chrono alone, Ran walked out into the yard to the bundle of blankets that was the elder demon. He kneeled down and nudged it. "Chrono...wake up, please..."

Chrono stirred. The magic word. He blinked, confusion swimming in the ruby eye as it peered up through the curtain of violet hair towards Ran's face.
That was when he smelled it: French Toast.
Like a man possessed, Chrono rose from the cocoon of blankets, his vacant gaze scanning around as he sniffed out the source of the heavenly aroma. A low grumble echoed deep in his throat, sounding almost like, "Foooood."
The elder demon mussed his fingers through his hair, grunting as he caught on snarls. "Should do something with it," he muttered absently. He picked up the blanket, gave it a snap to dislodge dirt and wrinkles, and draped it over his bare shoulders. Before it curtained over his chest, one could easily make out a peculiar-looking set of scars--two diagonal slashes like sword wounds, though the way the flesh had knitted itself back together followed less of a straight line and more of a honeycomb pattern, as if the wounds had been stitched together by deranged hands.
He didn't bother to dust off his pants, merely turned and set off towards the front doors and the heavenly aroma of breakfast.

Ran wasn't sure to be alarmed at Chrono's sudden revival or to burst out laughing. Of course, he caught sight of the scars and wondered, but--
Holding back a grin, the younger demon scrambled ahead of the older one and held open the door for him, stopping any chance the half-asleep Chrono would just charge right through and destroy the poor door.

"...'anks," Chrono mumbled, acknowledging the younger demon's presence, but not awake enough to have the presence of mind to multi task manners and breakfast. He shuffled through the open door and made a shambling beeline for the smell of French Toast.
Entry way, hallway, hallway, hallway--KITCHEN.
Reg was already seated at the table; Crysta was present too. Suddenly, Chrono's feet rooted to the entry-way floor, an awkward sense flooding him. Seeing those two, he suddenly felt like he didn't belong here, that he wasn't a welcome member of this domestic scene.
But oh God was it hard to just stand there with a mountain of French Toast sitting on that table.

Crysta looked up from the coffee she was brewing and smiled. "Your just in time. Reggae hasn't managed to eat everything yet."
"I'm not that bad", the girl huffed. Ran entered slightly after Chrono did, looking around.
"Where's Corey?"
"Drying his face. Apparently, some random burst of water dropped on him and woke him up in time for breakfast." Ran gave the girl a sharp glare. She ignored him as she took a couple of pieces of French Toast and put them on her plate.
Ms. Valentine turned to hide the smirk on her face.

The tension bled out of Chrono's shoulders at seeing that smile on Crysta's face. Maybe she didn't trust him, but at least she allowed him at her breakfast table. A soft, rueful smile appeared on his face, showing only a portion of the gratitude he felt.
Also...there was COFFEE. It was a good thing he was more awake now, or he might have glomped Crysta in thanks right before stealing her coffee.
Chrono cast a glance at Reg as he lowered himself into a chair. He blinked, remembering the wisps of dreams that had plagued him this morning--and suddenly connected the dots. He fixed the girl with a bemused, unimpressed look as he forked a few slices of French Toast onto his plate.
"Wonder how that happened," he said dryly. "What a mystery. That and how I ended up on the ground when my bed was on the second story...the ground OUTSIDE."
But he grabbed the syrup bottle, drizzled it over his toast, and began munching contentedly as if the matter had already passed.

Reg grinned evilly. "Outside, really? I was wondering how that twig got in your hair." She promptly started eating her own French Toast. Ran sighed and headed for the nice fruit salad set out just for him.

Chrono's unimpressed look only flattened more at the sight of that evil grin. But he'd been completely unaware that he had a twig in his hair...of course, anything was possible with his mane. He patted around his head, trying to feel for--Ah, there it is. He pulled gently on the twig, unwinding it from his hair like a cotton candy vendor in reverse.
He dropped it into Reg's lap without a word. Then, Chrono got up, taking his coffee mug in hand, and ambled over to the coffee pot just as it beeped to signal that the dark beverage was ready.
"Hope you don't mind if I take the first cup," he said cordially to Crysta. "The first and the last are always the strongest." He poured his own cup before reaching over to pull Crysta's mug towards him. "Creme and sugar?"

"No, thanks", Crysta responded, smiling, "I prefer my coffee black."
Ker-thunk. After managing to flawlessly flick the twig into the trash from her seat, Reg returned to eating. She seemed much cheerier and less spawn-of-evil than she did a few seconds ago. Ran sighed and sat next to her, placing his fruit salad down on the table.

It was good to see a smile on her face, being that he was sort-of-kind-of-still intruding upon her home. He poured Crysta a cup of coffee and set it before her. "Good choice," he complimented, turning to lean against the counter and take a sip of his own mug. His eye closed as he contemplated the taste of the hot beverage. "That's really good," he mumbled.
His eye flitted open at the sound of the twig hitting the trash can, and Chrono smirked into his mug. It seemed that Reg was less of a hellcat now with a few carbs in her. And speaking of carbs...his were getting cold on the table.
With a cordial nod and a smile towards Crysta, Chrono once again migrated from the kitchen counter to the table. He quickly polished off the remains of the French toast on his plate, helped himself to three more slices, covered them in syrup, and steadily forked away the sweet, steaming pile of heaven until there was nothing left on his plate but a puddle of syrup to chase around. He leaned back in his chair, sipping coffee with perfect contentment.
His eye opened between sips to glance over at Ran, busy enjoying his fruit salad, and Reg, still tucking in to the toast. Next on the morning-routine checklist for him was of course a shower and making himself presentable for the day, but after that, then what...? All he'd signed up for so far was to tail these two, to be guardian and watchful protector. What did they typically do with their days, when they weren't spinning around on a dance floor?
