Moth-colored eyelashes fluttered open. Sulfur eyes blink-blink-blinked up at the elder demon, trying to focus.
Ran smiled a weary, exhausted smile. "A little better....I suppose..." And indeed, though the words still came in tired exhales, they were stronger than they were the day before now only strained by the young demon's tired soul and throbbing marks.
And maybe still a little bit of the concussion of having a year ripped away from him remained. Maybe.

A grimace flitted over the elder demon's face before he forced it to shape into a reassuring smile. "That's good," he responded softly, not trusting his voice to anything louder than a whisper.
The younger demon was lying. He clearly was not okay, nor would he be until long after the Rites were over. But of course he would say that. That's just the kind of person Ran was--always more worried about everyone besides himself, even if the cost was his own life.
Stupid, idiotic, noble, gold-hearted kid.
Gingerly, Chrono lowered his lanky form onto the bed next to Ran, only taking up the barest edge and trying not to jar the springs, reminding himself again how much hell he'd catch if he woke up Reggie.
"Are you up for a talk?" The smile faded from Chrono's face. His gaze grew grave as he raised his eyes to Ran's. It certainly wasn't going to be a fun talk, judging by the elder demon's expression.

It was Ran's turn to force a grimace into a soft smile. He blinked blearily up at the elder demon.
"I'm assuming this is probably rather important so...yes. I'm game." He blew his bangs out of his eyes and blinked some more at Chrono, as if trying to focus on something far away.
Or through something very thick. Like pain.
