"So I've noticed. I suppose I'll have to learn to get used to it." Hope shook her head, appearing equally weary, but perhaps for different reasons. Tabor frowned, casting a cool, side-long glance. How long had it been since she and the crew had landed back on the Island? A month or two, tops. Surely it was still upsetting... upsetting...
"Tchoo!"
Screwing up his face unpleasantly, Tab sneezed once, twice, shook his head, and set the girls with a deadpan look. "Fun."

Alice laughed lightly. "I warned you- overload of pepper in the air." She let out a dainty sneeze right after, sniffed, sighed, and coughed lightly. "Very, VERY overloaded."

"So you did." His snip was more nasal than usual--a glance told Hope that the Snark had taken to pinching his nose.
She perked a brow at the both of them and sucked in an experimental breath. Held it. Blew it out. Took another.
"... I don't know. I rather like the smell of pepper."

Alice smiled. "Well, good. You shouldn't have as much trouble as the rest of us then." The albino hopped a log and turned to look behind her, a small glimer of hope shining in her eyes.
No. He still hadn't caught up.
Heaving a sigh, Alice readjusted her stolen hat and kept going.

"Looking for your friend?" Tab asked, only to huff irritably a second later when he had to muffle another sneeze.
Hope smirked to herself--bet he's not preening about that sensitive nose of his now--and nodded to Alice. "I'm sure they'll find us soon."
"Not like they could miss the play... the play... TCHOO!" The Snark blinked away blearily for a moment, then finished with a miserably sort of sigh. "Place. Blast it."

Alice sighed, nodded, and readjusted her stolen hat again. "I do hope so....its not like them to be this slow..."

"Well, from what you've said, it seems like your hatter friend can certainly take care of himself." The softness of her voice surprised even Hope; Tab stared at her like she'd grown a second head. Hope, the pitchfork carrying she-devil herself, being reassuring? Surely there was some mistake.
She cleared her throat, scorching the air between them with her glare, "And, anyway, Cheshire seems like he can handle himself."
"Of course. Anyone who can Vanish like that is obviously capable of great things."
The Snark smirked, and Hope heaved a sigh, shaking her head apologetically at Alice once again.
"His tact and humility are simply awe-inspiring, wouldn't you agree?"

Alice giggled. "No worse than the Doormouse." Seeming to feel a bit better, she smiled at Hope. "And thank you. I guess I'm just being a worrywart." She heaved a sigh and picked up a clipped pace. "Come on, Duchess isn't much further."

"A Dormouse?" Huffing, Tab crossed his arms and peered down at Alice skeptically (which must have been rather difficult, as he was only an inch or two taller at the most), "How could you see this--" He spun on the spot, giving both girls a 'round view of his flipping hair and grass stained pants, "--and even begin to compare me to--"
"I have no idea if what I'm looking at is real, so I can't compare you to anything." Hope sniffed, "I've never seen a real Snark in my life."
Tab sniffed as well, forgetting the pepper in the air in his attempt to look put-out. He folded his arms across his chest and peered down his nose at her, "Well, for your information, sparrow, Snarks generally look something like a ferret and something like a newt, but very little like either." A pause, in which he looked vaguely thoughtful, tapping his chin. "Eh, the feathered kinds, anyway."
"... Well, that tells me loads."
"Glad you were paying attention... Hey!"
Hope trotted after Alice, Tabor's protest floating uselessly in the air behind them. Indeed, the pepper smell was growing very strong now, to the point where even she was beginning to feel the tickle in her sinuses, and she couldn't help but feel a bit uneasy. These Underlanders were a strange lot, as far as she reckoned, and it as much wariness as curiosity that powered her question: "If I may ask, what exactly is Duchess like?"
Translation: Please dear God, not another Tabor.

"Eh", the albino girl shrugged, pulling a curtain of moss out of the way of Hope and herself, "She can be very sour and grumpy, but she has a good heart. I wouldn't want to eat one of her desserts, though- far too harsh-tasting."

"Ah, I see." Hope let out a sigh that immediately put every pond and lake within a mile radius into low-tide. She's been fearing much worse things than a botched batch of cookies.
Tab shrugged, waiting for Hope to duck under and Alice to follow before he went on. "Eh, we can't all be perfect."

Alice sighed a giggle, smiling amiably. "Yes, true." She let out a small sneeze and sniffed. "Ah, excuse me...." She sniffled a bit ore, looking slightly miserable from all the pepper, but otherwise unfazed.

Tabor grinned, looking exceedingly pleased with himself; Hope rarely ever did so much as smile, and Alice's laughter was like a breath of fresh air after two months of the doldrums. He was rather starting to like to the pale girl.
"Now I see why no one would dare bother her," Hope reached into the inner pocket of her jacket and withdrew a handkerchief, offering it to Alice with a flick of her wrist, "The air alone would be enough to put a small army out of commission."
"But apparently not a mutant like you." Tab pouted, glaring at the human as close to irritably as he ever became. Of course she had that hidden all along. Never mind that he was sneezing his head off as well...
"Mind your tongue." Hope replied smartly, and chucked the second right in his face.

Alice lightly caught the handkerchief, smiling. "Thank you...." She lightly blew her nose, barely without a sound, and head enough sense not to hand the mucus-tainted thing back.
"But yes. The Duchess has always used this much pepper, even before the war. Not to mention she's rather good at hucking things when she's really in a tizzy. I do hope that doesn't happen while we're there. "

"Don't worry," Tab began dryly, "I've learned to duck."
Hope glared at him menacingly, and he Vanished with a grin, appearing moments later on the other side of Alice.
"Ah well." The girl smoothed her ruffled dress, but to be honest what it really needed was a good washing. She sighed, uncomfortably aware of how long it had been since she'd been around anyone besides Tabor--she'd stopped caring with him, but now she realized that she looked like a right mess.
Hope sighed again. "I have a bit of a temper myself, I admit, so I can't well judge anyone else for it."
