Just some backstory to the Elise currently hanging out in the Spirit Realm, considering slightly different from the *gag* GAME Elise.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
She remembered everything, now that she was dead. It was...odd, to say the least, suddenly knowing everything that should have been off about her life and yet wasn't simply because she didn't know.
She remembered fire, and robots. Hoverboards, and running, and fuzzy red sweaters similar to the one her spirit form wore. She remembered stabbing robots with knives to the joints and fleeing from capture. She remembered chewing the ex-King of the World out whenever she got the chance. She even remembered dying, once, in a ball of flames and wreckage, but it simply being reset from someone's grim determination.
She remembered monsters. She remembered friends. She remembered laughter and worry and a sorrow unlike the hollowness that she had felt upon her father's death, and tears. She remembered a God, and a dinky little flame.
But most of all, she remembered him.
She remembered him dropping in as a whirlwind of blue just as she thought she was completely screwed.
She remembered his expression upon finding she had already snuck out of her cell when he came to rescue her.
She remembered his childish sort of glee upon finding her sliding down banisters and sock-skating around the hotel before joining her.
She remembered how much he would sulk whenever it rained, and how much worse he'd get when she poked at him about it, and couldn't help but laugh as he sputtered when she shook whatever water was on her off.
She remembered him finding a beautiful white tree she-- after all her running around and as much exploring as she could get before she ended up being dragged back to the palace-- never knew was there. He was smiling, and encouraging her because she had a rather terrible day thanks to a second kidnapping attempt, and she realized how utterly normal this was for him. She realized that once Eggman was gone and everything settled, he'd have no more reason to stay, and finally found herself torn between clinging to him and beating herself up for even thinking about tying him down. For how could anyone who wanted to capture the wind truly love it, and all such poetic drama?
She remembered him disappearing one day. The same day she gave herself up to Eggman upon being threatened with Soleanna being levelled. The same day she died, and then suddenly didn't. She remembered the fire and determination in his eyes when he appeared and changed her fate.
She remembered taking the slow road back to the palace the next day, just for those last moments with him. She remembered almost saying "I love you", but chickening out and merely commenting that it looked like it was going to rain again. She remembered a terrible squelching noise to her side not twenty minutes later.
She remembered him dying.
She remember literally waiting at the end of the world, his head resting on her lap, with his last chain to life-- a tawny hedgehog with swirled red eyes that had once been part of him-- leaning against a rock and slowly fading. She remembered the Emeralds, and placing her hands over his chest, and pumping every shred of power she had into him. Her nails and nose began to bleed as she tried to preform a miracle, and for a terrible moment it looked like it was all just a false hope.
She remembered him opening his eyes, and turning gold. He stood, and for a second, her exhaustion lifted and they simply stared at each-other in wonder and joy. She collapsed, and he caught and worried over her-- him, worry over her, when he had had a huge hole in his chest not a few moments ago!
She remembered the fireworks of the final battle, and running and hugging the hell out of him when it was over. There were cheers, and giddy laughter, and other such glee, but all she could think about was hugging that damned crazy hedgehog and thanking every God she could think of that she had the chance to do so.
She remembered a sort of mono-chrome darkness and understanding that what needed to be done would basically mean they would never meet. She had hesitated for a moment, before he came over and placed his hand over hers. She remembered one last, little moment as the light went out.
And then it was gone. And she had known nothing at all.
She wasn't sure if she felt guilty for not somehow breaking all of the laws of...everything and remembering, or was simply glad she did now. But the irony of it all, was he wasn't even there with her yet. It occurred to her this was the first time she ever had to wait for him. But she knew better to complain-- after all, it probably wasn't required for her to have remembered anything, and she certainly didn't want whatever God that decided to allow it to take it back. So she waited, very patiently, in that Limbo of Deadness.
And one day, he did, in fact, appear. For a second they stared at each-other, and recognition lit up his face. Elise smiled, stood, and floated over to him, enveloping him in a hug.
She wanted to say "I love you", but some part of her-- perhaps the part that noted they never really got anywhere until it was too late-- chickened out. But there was one thing she could say in it's stead that was just about as true.
"I Missed You."
