Silver slipped inside the building as silently as the growing shadows slipped across the pavement. For several minutes after, as he must have been picking his way across the basement, everything remained quiet. Then, when the seconds ticked by and he was surely nearing the security station, the stillness was shattered by a great, loud, damning... Nothing.
No alarms. No flashing lights. No shouts or sirens whooping in the distance. Nothing.
... Except, perhaps, for the softly blinking LEDs darkening atop all the security cameras in the building.
Like he'd said--Silver knew what he was doing.
As the silence followed him, aisle after aisle, floor after floor, it had a calming effect on the outrage that had been piling up since his tumble in the lake. He had to focus, and without any time to spare to tend his anger, it flickered out and died... Well, maybe not died. But he could at least think coherently again.
He didn't bother with the security guards he found roaming the floors--today, all he wanted was to make it to the top floor and back. No tipped boxes, no evil snickering--all he wanted was to get to the top floor... And maybe a soda. Maybe.
No one on the outside would have noticed the shadow that slipped past the windows unless they knew exactly what to look for... at least, until he reached the sixth floor.
His face appeared in the window, nothing more than a shadow against the glass as he stared out across the city. He stood there for what seemed like an eternity, but, in reality, it was mere seconds before he vanished again from sight.

It wasn't very long before Gold had to once again force himself not to look up. However, as the footsteps of the redhead padded to the ground, and Gold was free to turn to him, he could not force his disbelieving frown away.
"You went through all that for a soda?!"

Silver dropped to the ground next to Gold, the bottle in his hand unopened. He glared at the other boy's frown, irritated. Still, his eyes appeared clearer than when he'd first crossed the street half an hour earlier.
"Yeah, so what if I did?"
... Or maybe that was just a trick of the light.

Gold put his face in his hands, groaning softly. "You're impossible", he bemoaned, gently, not really complaining but definitely exhausted and exasperated by these stunts.

Perking a brow at Gold, the redhead pocketed the soda. Again, he'd thought about offering it to Gold, but, again, he'd thought better. More sarcasm probably would not be appreciated at the moment.
Silver shrugged. What else did he expect? Being impossible was kind of his thing.

The ex-Champion pulled himself to his feet, sighing again, before looking around.
"....I am SO not staying back here." The boy started plodding for the street.

Silver perked a brow in Gold's direction, a bit surprised at the impatience. "... You didn't have to follow me in the first place, you know."
Rolling his eyes, the redhead followed, his pace casual, even slow. For once, it seemed to him, Gold was the one who was being uptight. He had no reason to run, no cause for worry--nothing at all that would stop him from taking his time...

Gold didn't like cramped alleyways. At all. It wasn't that big a deal- there was just no point in staying there if Silver was back. Really. No problem.
Well, that was a lie of course. Gold hunched a little and chewed on his lip until he got to the fresh air of the streets. (Well, close enough in Goldenrod, anyway.)

Eventually, Silver caught up to the taller boy, and while his expression wasn't exactly what you would call serene, he didn't seem to be too bothered by Gold's rush. He paused next to him at the edge of the alley, hands loosely hidden and shoulders relaxed slightly in a thoughtful boredom. From the corner of one pale eye, he watched him, taking note of the change in his rival.
"... What's with you?"

Gold jumped a little before staring at Silver with a wide-eyed sort of stunned. He then turned down the street, averting his eyes as much as possible and trying to pretend like his mind wasn't painting the alleyway red. "N-nothing..."
He scrambled a little further away from the narrow passage before breathing in a sigh of relief and relaxing, being able to push his worst memories to the back of his head where they belonged.

Silver gave a disbelieving snort and shook his head at him, somewhat incredulous of the lame attempt of a lie. There weren't enough Mareep in the Kanto and Johto combined for Gold to be able to pull the wool over Silver's eyes.
But he fell silent, perhaps uncharacteristically so. Normally, he'd push for answers for such strange behavior... but something in that haunted stare told him to shut up. Something told him he probably didn't want to know.
"... Whatever." Silver huffed again, apparently annoyed, "But if you've decided to lead, at least figure out where you're going."

Gold blinked again, calmer. "Er...." Really, the whole point was to get out of the alleyway, not go anywhere. He looked around for an excuse and, upon finding none, let out a nervous chuckle. Had this been an anime, there would have been an sweatdrop on his head. He hunched a little bit and fell back behind Silver, figuring he'd have more direction than the ex-Champion.

((OOC: Pffft, we need plot. XD))
Silver rolled his eyes, blowing out a long, low sigh of exasperation before starting off down the street again.
Of course, he didn't know where he was going, either. The department store had been his only real reason for coming here... But he wasn't about to let Gold know that. Instead, he made a snap decision--it was getting late, they'd need a place to crash, and the Pokemon Center was nearby. Voilà--instant destination, with none of this wishy-washy running back and forth all over creation.

Gold clicked after him like a lost puppy, willingly. A soft smile finally faded back on his face, glad to be away from that bloody, dark, dank...
Totally normal alleyway. His brain needed to quit that.

Like usual, Silver pretended to ignore the duckling mentality and kept walking. Once again, something told him to just go with it--to not prod it with any unecessary questions. Instead he simply shoved his hands deeper into his pockets and picked up the pace.
The ex-trainer didn't quite bristle when the Pokemon Center came into sight, but he managed a glare in its direction, again glad that he was leading so that Gold couldn't question the peculiar change in expression. Ugh. Now he remembered why he hated making snap decisions.
